About Us

Eightball started the way most college stories do — in a dorm room, late at night, with a problem that wouldn't go away.

Every student sits through the same lectures, reads the same slides, and gets the same textbook — but everyone learns differently. The tools that existed were either outdated or dangerously generic. Nothing was built around your actual course.

So we built it.

What started as a side project quickly became the most-used study tool on campus. It grew so fast that our founder was expelled by his university for building it — then they reversed course after public backlash made national news (WSJ, NY Post). We were offered multiple seven-figure acquisitions. We turned them all down. The vision was bigger than a quick exit. Instead, we raised a $1.2M pre-seed led by GTMfund to take a real shot at changing how students learn.

Today, Eightball is used at over 200 universities. We plug directly into your course materials — your syllabus, slides, lecture recordings, and notes — and turn them into an AI-powered study system: chat that actually cites your sources, flashcards generated in seconds, practice tests that match your real exams, and lecture transcription that means you never miss a word.

We're backed by investors like James Beshara (early investor at Gusto, Mercury, Clubhouse) and advised by Dennis Yang, the former CEO of Udemy. They're betting on the same thing we are: that AI will fundamentally change how students learn, and that Eightball will be at the center of it.

We're not building another AI shortcut. We're building the platform that makes every student's education more personal, more accessible, and available whenever they need it — for the price of a single tutoring session.

This is just the beginning.
